5 of WaveMe's favourite UK campsites

Exploring the beauty of the United Kingdom through camping offers an unforgettable experience for any traveller. There are several locations across the country that have 5-star ratings for the amazing facilities they provide. These campsites offer various amenities, like swimming pools, playgrounds, and on-site restaurants. Visitors can enjoy stunning scenery while benefiting from top-notch services for a comfortable stay. For those seeking a memorable camping experience, these locations will offer you everything you need for an exceptional adventure.

Exploring the UK and camping have seen a notable surge in popularity. More people are choosing to discover the beauty of the countryside and embrace outdoor adventures. This trend reflects a growing desire for experiences that offer both relaxation and connection with nature. Consequently, campsites and tourist attractions across the nation have experienced increased demand. Ultimately, this shift underscores the evolving preferences of individuals seeking enriching experiences, which is music to WaveMe's ears. Although it can become very frustrating that our once loved destinations have become almost over-populated and not quite how we remember them for the peace and tranquillity they once offered, there are still a few hidden gems.

It is interesting how the increased use of social media has brought greater attention to some of the UK's lesser-known locations. Many people are now aware of beautiful places they may not have known about otherwise. The popularity of these places has grown, as more people share their experiences online. However, there is a concern that this could lead to overcrowding in some locations. It is important that we consider the impact of tourism on these special places. Although it is great for our economy and wonderful to see so many people making use of such spaces and enjoying family time, being close to nature and remembering what truly counts in life, it doesn't always come with a welcome.

Take for example Studland Bay in Dorset which boasts beautiful white sands (which have been compared to the Caribbean) for a wonderful four mile stretch. The bay comprises of four beachs, Knoll Beach, South Beach, and Middle Beach, which are often used by families and couples seeking a peaceful or romantic day out. But with so many complaints of wild camping, litter, human waste issues, fires destroying some of the natural habbitat, it's no surprise that the council have run for a PSPO (Public Space Protection Order). It truly is a shame that people still feel the need to take advantage of these beautiful spaces and rather than 'give back', (which is a huge philosophy of the brand WaveMe) they choose to 'take'. Giving back to nature for the great experiences it provides you with would certainly include removing all litter, leaving an area as it was found (or better) for the preservation of that land and wildlife and making sure that your presence has NOT impacted that area in any negative way.

The 5 best spots which come highly recommended for their natural beauty and facilities in a natural environment for us are most definitley:

No.1 Llanberies

At the foot of Snowdon with the most spectacular views of the mountains and close to outstanding waterfalls and natural beauty. Fantastic amenities and clean facilities. Totally back to basics and usually no need to book. As the basecamp of Snowdon it comes with no surprise that you will surround yourself with all those who love getting back to basics and exploring the great outdoors and at £16 per night, who could possibly complain at that.

No.2 Gorran Haven, St. Austell, Cornwall.

A beautifully kept family campsite which is super clean. Offering your very own private individual block for showering and changing with a toilet and sink area.

Basic site but the pitch sizes are much bigger than average with grass and gravel areas. There is an outdoor pool and play area with plenty of space which is so close to wonderful walks, gardens and a cove beach.

No. 3 The Hens Dens at Orchards Organic Farm, near Newton Abbott

A total little surprise whoch offers beautifully clean facilities including nice hot showers. A fantastic location with less than two miles to the pub and a short distance to wonderful beaches and walks. Electric hook-ups and friendly staff.

No. 4 Mendip Base Camp, Cheddar.

A fabulous find which is very family focused. Getting back to basics and your natural environment is what this camp-site is all about. Pitch up anywhere (no electric), enjoy the freedom to have fir pits and BBQ's, FAMILY ONLY, live music in the bell tent, lovely little shop and on-site cafe with fantastic sports available whoch include tobogganing and climbing. Gorgeous walks. A true gem to take some time out and get family focused without too much stimulation. The kids can cycle, play in the huge sand-pit and have space to play.

No.5 River Dart Country Park, River Dart.

It's no wonder they've been nominated with awards, this campsite is more than just a campsite, it is a holiday of adventire for all the family.

So many walks, obstacle courses, slides, outdoor waters to boat, kayak on and so much space to play. Beautiful grounds, facilities and space. A unique site which should definitley be paid a visit by any family who loves the great outdoors. It's not your usual over-stimulating play camping holiday - this is about adventure and quality family time. Food served, drinks served and fantastic facilities all round.

It was difficult to just pick 5 of our favourites but we hope you enjoy them.

Keep waving, always give back and appreciate the things that matter the most in life.
